15 Jun 2017 UK MASTERS, LILLESHALL
The following, composed by Pete Probert appeared in today's West Sussex County Times:

Sussex county archer Steve Lancaster dominated the UK Masters Championship at Lilleshall in the Midlands, winning all three competitions shot over two days to earn the gold medal in the barebow discipline. The 59-year-old retired geophysicist took up archery in 2010, turning to the barebow, where no sights or other accoutrements are allowed on the bow itself, just 18 months ago. He has quickly risen to become the county’s top barebow archer, collecting seven gold and three silver medals in competition, plus four county records in addition to earning Master Bowman status. After the qualification round at 70m distance in a breezy sunshine with occasional showers he was ranked at number one on the leader board, and there he stayed through the following head-to-head round, winning in a tight one-arrow shoot-off to complete the first day. The second day saw a full World Archery 1440 round shot, with three dozen arrows at each of the four distances of 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres. Again Lancaster rose to the top, earning a county record along the way, to take the UK Masters Championships at his first attempt and with a clean sweep. Lancaster shoots for Holbrook Archers based in Horsham, a club which has been shooting at the Holbrook Club site for over 50 years. Of his success Lancaster said “No-one was more surprised than me, and it bodes well for the future as I’m still improving.”

20 July 2014 SUSSEX CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over the weekend the Sussex County Championships were held at Hazelwick School in Crawley, and Holbrook were very successful.

For Saturday's FITA event Steve Lancaster came third in the Gents category, and Martin Reeves shot a very creditable score for his first ever FITA.

Then on Sunday for the Championships themselves Holbrook fielded five archers, being Steve Lancaster, Pete Probert, Christine Stevens, Graham Stevens and Karina Wiles. Our main claim for glory is that Holbrook WON the recurve team event, after Steve Lancaster's and Christine Stevens's individual scores were combined. In the individual categories Steve Lancaster took second place and Graham Stevens third place for the Gents, and Christine Stevens claimed second place in the Ladies. This is our best result for these Championships for many years.

Pete Probert has brought home the gold to Holbrook ! Shooting an Albion on an extremely windy site in Biggleswade, Pete led the field at the break for lunch having completed the 80yds distance with a score of 205. However, the judges deemed the wind to be too hazardous and the competition was brought to an early close, leaving Pete to claim the honours and trophies. Pete's victory is made even more impressive in that he beat at least two nationally-ranked archers in the field.
